Update, Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow AOSP Stable Version in Sony Xperia Z2

Sony Xperia users can update their Xperia Z2 to the latest Android Marshmallow Platform. although this is not an official ROM, people who like to update their device with the latest OS can update their device. This is a new custom ROM that has been rolled out now. this can only be installed in some specific conditions. This Custom ROM comes from the house of the Xda-developers. and this ROM is ported from the stock firmware. Installing this ROM in your smartphone will give you a nexus like an experience in the phone and its also not preloaded with bloatware or UI. totally installing this ROM will give you a pure android experience and will give you better performance along with battery life.

anyhow, this is a clean ROM but this is not yet a stable version. but don’t worry, it is completely fit for daily use. When looking at the user experience and reviews, the OS is working fine without any glitch except the camera app and video playback.

Please note that installing a Custom ROM in your device will lose the warranty of the device and it also comes with a chance of bricking your device if not done properly. so do this at your own risk and it you follow everything the right way, everything is going to be alright.

So if you want to update the Xperia Z2 with Android Marshmallow 6.0, follow the steps given below. please note that you must root the device because you must unlock the internal system of the phone and also bootloader. and you must also install a CWM, TWRP or any other similar software in your device and also google apps package to install the custom ROM.

  • you must perform a Nandroid backup of the device so you can save the current firmware file and you can revert to the current if you don’t like the new custom ROM.
  • You must also perform a hard reset of the device during the process, so make sure you back up all the date in your device.
  • Please make sure you have turned off any firewall and security features in your c including the antivirus program while installing the ROM.

Make sure that your device has more than 60% of battery left.

How to Install AOSP Stable Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Sony Xperia Z2

  1. Download the required files. Sirus image modified boot image  click here and Android 6.0M system image from here. and also get a compatible  Google Apps package.
  2. Save the files to your desktop.
  3. Download and Install Android SDK in your PC and open it
  4. Open cmd window inside Android SDK and press and hold shift keyboard key when right clicking any black space.
  5. Connect your smartphone in the PC using USB cable.
  6. in the command window, type “ADB reboot bootloader” and your phone will be booted into bootloader mode.
  7. Extract the downloaded files and rename it into boot.img and system.img.
  8. Open a command window from where the both files are located.
  9. enter “fastboot devices”. if your smartphone is not listed disconnect it and try to reinstall the USB drivers and repeat the step.
  10. when the device got listed enter “fastboot flash boot boot.img” in the command window to flash the boot image.
  11. now flash the next image by entering  “fastboot flash system system.img”.
  12.  After finishing the flashing process of the system install the modified boot image once more by entering “fastboot flash boot boot.img”.
  13. Transfer the Google apps package that you have already downloaded in the system to the device and reboot the device into recovery mode you can enter into the recovery mode by reading this post 
  14. In the recovery mode select the install from SD card and select the google apps package file. and install it in your device.
  15. select reboot system now to restart the smartphone.
  16. If you see a boot loop in the device, then wipe the device by selecting the options  “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe Dalvik cache”.
  17. Yup, your Sony Xperia Z2 will be updated with Android 6.6 Marshmallow OS.
