Amazon Fire 7 running on Android 5.1.1 Lolipop? Yes, it is possible. and it is a happy news for all the Fire 7 users. anyway please note that this not an official update for the device but you can use Android 5.1.1 Lolipop on Amazon Fire 7. if you are thinking of using the custom ROM, you can update your device with the CM 12.1 custom ROM. and you should also know that this OS is developed by the famous XDA developers, not the CyanogenMod team. but when looking at the user reviews and other tests. the Android 5.1.1 Lolipop runs well on the Amazon Fire 7.

although this update is safe and gives you a good experience, the OS is not official and installing this on your device will make you loose your device warranty.

  • Install a custom recovery image such as TWRP or CWM recovery.
  • You must root your device before updating your device with the OS.
  • a custom ROM can be only installed on your system by first wiping the internal system. so take a backup of the personal data before updating
  • also takes a Nandroid backup and also save the current ROM so you can revert to the old one if you like to do so.
  • Disable any antivirus or security features in your PC before updating your device, because security software won’t allow transferring of files flawlessly.
  • enable USB dubbing on your device by going into the settings of the device. menu – settings – developer options. ( if you can’t find developer options tap 7 times on the build number will show developer option )

  1. Download the firmware file to your system the CM 12.1 And also
  2. Download a Google Apps package which is compatible.
  3. Copy the both files to the Amazon Fire 7 using USB cable
  4. Shut down the device and enter into recovery mode
  5.  Perform a System wipe and clear the cache to perform this navigate to ” wipe data factory reset” wipe cache partition” and “wipe Dalvik cache”
  6. to install the ROM go to the “install zip from SD card” and select the file by navigating to the “choose zip from SD card”. The files will be installed and do the same with the google apps package once it is done.
  7. Reboot the phone by going into the main menu and selecting the “reboot system now”
