Install Legacy Xperia Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM on Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

A few months ago, the Xperia Arc was launched along with Android 2.3 Gingerbread pinned together with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony hasn’t given any further importance for the Arc models, and it continued running with the same Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

  • Make sure that you’ve a backup of all the important data in your Smartphone before starting the following process.
  • The Legacy Xperia Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM is only for Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc devices.
  • To with the PC, you can enable USB Debugging Mode on your Smartphone. Also, enable Android SDK with it.
  • There must be at least 80% of battery backup on your Smartphone while doing the process.
  • Your device must have at least 2GB free memory on your external SD card.

Step 1: Flash the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich 4.1.B.0.587 on your device. There is no need of following this step if you have already done this before. For the flashing process, all you need is a Flashtool on your PC.

Step 2: Download the ROM zip files for your device on PC. As it comes devoid of any default apps, download gapps files also. You can also download the System formatting Tool.

Step 3: Once you’re done with the above steps, connect your device with PC by using a USB cord. Move all the above downloaded files to the internal storage of your device. Make sure that you’ve moved all the files to the root folder in the internal storage.

Step 4: In the Fastboot option, flash boot.img. Reboot your Xperia Smartphone into recovery mode.

Step 5: In the recovery mode, click on ‘Install zip from SD card’ and proceed further by selecting the System-Formatting-Tool_signed.zip file. Flash this file to move ahead with the formatting of the system directory.

Step 6: Click on ‘factory reset wipe data’, then ‘advanced’ and wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache one by one.

Step 7: Go back to the main recovery menu, click on ‘Install zip from SD card’. Go ahead by selecting the ROM zip files which are available on your device’s internal storage. Flash it to install the ROM files.

Step 8: Once you’re done with this, you can flash the GAPPS file in the similar manner.

Step 9: Click on ‘reboot system now’ to reboot your device.

It’s done. Now, you can start using Legacy Xperia AOSP Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Custom ROM running on your Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.
