How to Update Moto X Play to Cyanogenmod 12.1 Cyanogen Mod is one of the popular and most stable custom ROM available to install on your device. If you own a Moto X play, this article will help you to install the Custom ROM CyanogenMod 12.1 on your Moto X Play. The CyanogenMod is based on the Android version Lolipop. Installing this on your Moto X play will make it more stable and will give you increased performance. This ROM is packed with the stock vanilla interface that will give you pure Android experience and also give you increased battery backup. Please note that installing a custom ROM will make you lose your device warranty because this ROM is Cyanogen Mod official, but this don’t mean that it is released by Google or Motorola. Pre-Requisites Please ensure that you follow these steps before starting the procedure. Please make a complete backup of your device before beginning the process. You can use any of the back-ups and restore apps that are available in the Google play store. Enable USB debugging in the phone. You can do it by going to Settings > Developer Options > Enable USB debugging. If the developer option is not shown, go to the built number and tap on it several times the developer options will be shown in the settings. Make sure your device is having more than 70% of battery backup before starting the update, this will ensure complete installation of the ROM without completely draining the battery down. Install the USB drivers for your device on the computer before starting the process. Please ROOT your device, because installing a custom ROM will need complete root access. Install a Custom Recovery image on your device, this will be required to make a nandroid backup and a system wipe. Install Cyanogenmod 12.1 Rom on Moto X Play Connect your Moto X play on your PC using the USB cable Download the CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM from the CyanogenMod website to your system. Download the Google Apps package from here Copy Both the CyanogenMod firmware file and Google Apps file to the internal memory of your device. After copying the files, disconnect your device and turn off your Moto X play. Enter into the recovery mode of your device by Pressing Volume Down + Power button Make a Nandroid Backup of your device Wipe your Moto X play by selecting the wipe cache and Dalvik cache in the recovery menu of your Moto X Play.
